How to Order Concrete for Your Commercial Project

by | Apr 25, 2019

When you get to the stage in your construction project when it is time to order concrete, you want to make sure you order it correctly. Choosing to turn to Knight’s Redi-Mix is a great way to ensure you will get the right amount of a quality product that will serve your construction site well.

Ordering the Right Amount of Concrete for Your Project

Concrete orders are generally measured in cubic yards, so you will need to gather precise measurements of where the concrete will be placed. While you should be as precise as possible to avoid errors, it’s recommended to order about 5-10% more than what your measurements show you will need to avoid being short. Even though it may cost a little more to order extra product, getting too little concrete will prove to be a harder situation to fix than having a surplus.

Consider Transportation

The closer your ready-mix concrete is to your work site, the better. After more than about 90 minutes of driving, the quality and strength of the concrete mix may start to become compromised. At Knight’s, our Redi-Mix division can deliver your ready-mix concrete quickly to areas in and around Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina from one of our many local plants.

We own the trucks we use to transport all of our concrete products, and they are maintained onsite. Our drivers are employees of Knight’s rather than contractors, making them more reliable and invested in safely delivering our products to your site.

Scheduling your concrete delivery at the right time can help your project go smoothly. For instance, you want to avoid ordering your concrete delivery in the middle of rush hour, especially if your construction site is fairly remote. You should also provide any pertinent information about getting to your work site and where the concrete truck should be positioned to maximize efficiency as well.

Order the Right Mix

At Knight’s, we pride ourselves in creating high-quality formulas tailored to the needs of our customers. We will formulate a mix at one of our sites that has just the right strength and density for your project. Despite being situated in the South, Northern Georgia and South Carolina are still subject to freezing temperatures during cold stretches in the winter, so you will need to order 4,000 psi compressive strength concrete for all-weather performance and durability on concrete slabs. Concrete mixes for suspended concrete or walls may need to be up to 5,000 psi compressive strength for optimal performance. Just let us know what compressive strength you need for your construction project, and our concrete experts will make it happen.
